Ganesh Chaturthi, also known as devanagari, Vinayak Chaturthi, Vinayaka Chav, or Ganesha Festival, is the day that celebrates Ganesha and his birthday.
Parvati created Ganesha while her husband Shiva away at war to protect her while she bathed. When Shiva returned, Genesha and Shiva did not recognize each other. So, Genesha refused Shiva's entry and Shiva cut off his head. Infuriated, Parvati threatened to destroy the world. Shiva replaced Ganesha's head with an elephants', and all is well.
Shiva has said that those who worship Genesha first before the other gods will be favored.
