Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic Calendar, and the month that the Qur'an was revealed to the Prophet Muhammad.
On this day, Muslims fast. They do not eat anything from sunrise to sunset. They awaken before sunrise to eat and pray, and do not eat again until after the sun sets and after the fourth prayer of the day (Maghrib).
Ramadan is a time of devotion to Allah. Studying Islam is emphasized, irreligious experiences are avoided, and sex is forbidden during the day. One who practices Ramadan correctly will have all of his or her past sins forgiven.
